How Long Can a 10kWh Home Storage Battery Run a House During Blackouts?

Created on 08.27
10kWh remains one of the most popular specifications in the global residential energy-storage market. Many distributors and end-users keep asking: when grid failure occurs, how long can a 10kWh LiFePO4 PACK supply backup power for a residential house?

Why There Is No Fixed Runtime Figure

The nominal 10kWh refers to total energy storage, yet actual runtime highly depends on total load power, namely how many electric devices are running simultaneously.
· Light-load scenario: Running only low-power devices such as refrigerators, lighting, routers and phone chargers, a 10kWh battery can last for 10-15 hours or even longer.
· Heavy-load scenario: If air-conditioners, water heaters and induction cookers work at the same time, power consumption surges and runtime drops sharply.
Besides, BMS will reserve partial protection energy for LiFePO4 batteries, so the battery cannot be discharged to 0%. The usable capacity is slightly lower than nominal value.

Backup Solution Requires Matching Inverter and Battery

Many buyers only compare battery kWh figures while overlooking inverter compatibility. Even though the battery stores plenty of energy, low-output inverters cannot start high-power appliances. For off-grid backup projects, battery capacity and inverter power must be matched together.

Upgrade Options When 10kWh Is Not Enough

Single 10kWh unit cannot support heavy-load or long-duration backup demands. Multiple PACK units can be connected in parallel to expand total storage capacity. Our standard 10kWh residential PACK supports parallel expansion. Installers can combine multiple units flexibly, for small-scale household backup or larger-capacity energy-storage systems.
Summary: 10kWh is an excellent entry-level residential storage option. List all critical loads before purchasing to accurately estimate real-world backup performance.
